Safety Administrator (Phoenix, AZ)

Summary
The Safety Administrator is responsible for effectively monitoring interstate driver’s compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations ensuring safety in the workplace and on the road. Under the supervision of the Safety Director, this position provides clerical and other administrative support to the Safety Department.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for maintaining and updating driver qualification files.
    • Must be able to communicate with drivers when items need to be renewed.
  • Review van operators ELDs for compliance in accordance with all state and federal laws.
    • Responsible for being able to assist all interstate drivers with ELD issues and problems that may occur.
  • Ensure all that all equipment is compliant with DOT and company standards.
  • Assist with the annual licensing, permitting, insurance and distribution of necessary documents to our fleet so they are compliant with company and DOT standards.
  • Responsible for qualification of new contractors and company employees using company software.
  • Responsible for distributing monthly rating reports to the fleet with regards to their safety scores.
  • Responsible for maintaining tracking devices used on all trailers in the fleet.
  • Keep fleet up to date with any all changes with DOT/ELD compliance.
  • Create and maintain STA/TSA numbers using company software.
  • Maintain all online spreadsheets as they pertain to safety.
  • Assist Safety Director with new driver safety training.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities and skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalency. Post high school education desirable.
  • Experience in the transportation industry desirable.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to multi-task various job responsibilities at once
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Excellent computer literacy including advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize to meet deadlines.

Job Duties: 

  1. Responsible for pre and post-move in-van equipment preparation and maintenance used while engaging in the moving of household goods and personal effects to ensure adequate equipment inventory control. 
  2. Performs all loading and unloading duties pertaining to moving household goods and personal goods, as assigned, in a safe and efficient manner to assure a smooth move operation. 
  3. As needed, performs housekeeping operations to maintain a safe and healthy workplace. 

Essential Functions 

An average day for a field service crew member covers 8 to 12 hours, 5 to 6 days a week. The typical workday involves repetitious bending, stooping, pushing, rotating the body, lifting, and carrying. An individual hired as a field service crew member must be able to accomplish the following in order to meet the essential functions of the job: 

Lifting & Carrying 

  • 30-80 pounds – routinely 
  • 80-125 pounds – occasionally (3-5 times daily) 
  • 125-200 pounds – occasionally (1-2 times daily) 
  • Must be able to lift and carry, in teams of 2 (occasionally 3 or 4), large heavy items such as dressers, pianos, hot tubs, armoires, marble tabletops, and heavy wood pieces.

Summary

What are the Roles and Duties of an Owner-Operator?

  • Oversees packing/loading/unloading of the trailer
  • Manages onsite crews
  • Responsible for completion of all order related paperwork
  • Responsible for maintaining trailer and in-van equipment
  • Maintains and keeps up to date on all safety functions such as 
    • DOT physicals 
    • Truck and trailer inspections
    • SAF51s 
    • Electronic logbooks. 

Qualifications

  • Must have a valid CDL, Class A
  • 3 years of driving experience with a clean record 
    • No more than 2 traffic citations within 12 months
    • No more than 4 citations in the 36 months preceding the application
    • No more than 1 preventable accident in 12 months
  • 3 years of moving and storage experience
  • Own a California carb compliant tractor
  • Must meet company requirements including a drug test and criminal background check. 

Compensation

  • Owner-Operators are paid 77% of retained line haul 
  • 100% of accessorial revenue
